This winter I arranged two trips to Gysinge in Sweden to see and take photos of the magnificent White-tailed eagles (Havsörn). As it turned out, we also got a short visit by one of the two Golden eagles that also spend time in the area.
This was the first session in the hide, February 11th in Gysinge. We were 3 people that arrived and stayed at the local hostal where we have stayed before. It is always nice to gather and discuss photography before bedtime.
The alarm went off at 4:30 and after packing our gear, we met the guide who followed us to the hide. It was still alot of snow and the outdoor temperature was between -15 and -21 C so we were happy that the heater in the hide was working 😊.
Not long after sunrise, after app. an hour, the first eagles were gathering in the top of the pine trees. As always, they don’t come down unless a flock of Ravens have explored the location. After a few hours the first Eagle arrived, it was a Golden eagle but unfortunately it only stayed for a few seconds. I had access to two openings in the hide and I used my Canon EOS R5 with my EF500mm f/4 IS II in one opening and for the other I used Canon EOS-1D X Mark II with a EF100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II.
During the day we then had eagles coming down several times and we got several opportunities to take photos and videos of these wonderful birds. Below I share some of my favourites of the day. If you are interested to join me in a trip like this, please contact me and I can share more information.
