After a good night sleep, the clock was set for 4:50 AM (as for all days except the nights in the overnight hide). It was a clear morning and completely dark when we took the jeep to the hide. We were 3 photographers who had plenty of room in the hide. We were there early to avoid that the birds and animals would see us when we entered.
The hide was very nice with aircondition, comfortable office chairs and equipped with tripods for our use.
It was then a waiting game, but it didn’t take long until the first guests arrived. The first Black and white crow appeared and we watched through the mirror glass when one animal after the other arrived.
The hide is placed on a high hill and the background is the hills on the other side av the valley giving excellent photographic opportunity with out of focus background.
We had a fantastic morning with many visitors, among others were Tawny eagle, Perigrine falcon, Marabou storch, Jackal and of course the magnificent Vulture with it’s enormous wingspan. These all interacted more or less friendly and it was interesting to see how the Black and White crow were teasing with the eagles, exactly as I have seen in Sweden as well :-), nipping their feathers both on the ground and in the air.
The light this morning was beautiful and we had a lot of action through out the session. It was almost disappointing when the guide arrived and informed us that it was time to leave back for the lodge… As it turned out we were going to come back later during the week 🙂
More blogs from Zimanga will be posted shortly. Stay tuned!
