The beginning of the week was very focused on the hides and even if these were great sessions, I was excited to go on a traditional safari game drive as this was my first trip to Africa.
All in all, we had 3 general game drive sessions during the week and as always with nature and animals, you never know what to get. It could be nothing or the moment of your life could be waiting around the next turn. I think this is one of the most fascinating aspects of animal photography and I love the wait and the possibilities. To have all camera gear ready for any moment with the possibility of catching a perfect split-second image is to me the essence of photography. There is always another photo to be taken!
I’m not sure, but with the exception of Leopard, we probably saw most animal species in the park 🙂 Without ranking, we had encounters with following mammals; Zebras, Lions, Cheetah, Elephants, Giraffes, Wharthogs, Buffalos, Crocodiles, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Jackal, Kudu, Nyala, Porcupine and many more.
We also met a fantastic variety of birds, impossible to name them all but the birds I remember most was the Savannah eagle, Vultures, Peregrine falcon, Ostridge, Marabou Storch, Green Heron, Grey Heron, Three-banded Plover, at least 4 different species of King Fisher, Owls, African fish eagle etc. etc… Most of them being the first time I had ever seen them wild.
Here is a small selection of the shots from these gamedrives.
