What can I say… During the week we had only seen a few Elephants on a far distance with no possibility to take any good photos. This afternoon, all of this was going to change.
We dedicated the afternoon to track the herd down and were hoping to get to see them. After some great tracking by our guide, we found the whole herd in the far corner of the reserve.
Everything came into place, the light, the animals, the timing and we frankly just had a fantastic experience witnessing these great creatures in their daily routines, playing, bathing, and engaging with each others. Our guide had no words, I remember him saying: “Be creative guys!”
We had all opportunities to take close-ups, environmental photos, social engagement photos and by moving around with the jeep we could capture the afternoon from different directions in different lighting situations.
When the light was disappearing we saw an approaching thunderstorm and the light was almost magical. Unfortunately we needed to leave to pick up the other group that were still in the new overnight hide, but in retrospect we had a truly unique experience with the magnificent Elephants.
